Event Details

This is an introductory-level course on teaching social skills to students with learning disabilities.  Most behavioral issues that occur in classrooms and on the playground are often a direct result of poor social skills.

Participants will learn how to help students develop the skills necessary for initiating, building and maintaining relationships as well as communicating their needs in a positive manner.

We will be focusing on the following:

  1. What are social skills?
  2. Why teach social skills?
  3. Who needs to be taught social skills?
  4. In what order do I teach social skills?
  5. How do I teach social skills?
  6. Where do I find resources for teaching these skills?

This workshop would be of interest to all who care for or work with children with learning disabilities.   Participants will receive a Certificate of Accomplishment, Teaching Social Skills Level 1.

Turning Tides Community Outreach

Turning Tides Community Outreach programs are here to support any individual with the development of social, behavioural or organizational skills they need to succeed.  From our social skills camps and after-school programs for kids, to our professional development and parenting workshops, we provide a full circle of support and opportunity for learning.

If you or someone in your care has ever struggled to make and maintain friendships, dealt with behaviour issues or needed to improve on organizational or study skills, we can help.

We offer tutoring, social skills programs in small group settings, and workshops that are open to the public.  We can also provide support to parents who are navigating the school system with issues like advocacy and the program planning process.

Our tutoring students begin with a free consultation and basic assessment, with optional in-depth skills assessments available.

Workshops are available across the Maritimes, and can be customized or delivered in a specific location on request.
